Longer or Shorter

Our Rockstar today was Phoenix.
Phoenix shared his flags of origin which included Canada, Quebec and Ukraine. So cool. He speaks English at home and lives with his Mom and Dad. Phoenix was named after the fire bird, the Phoenix. A favourite family tradition of Phoenix and his family is going camping. Wow, what a fun family, Phoenix.
This week students will be busy with their learning tables. They are working to subitize and represent numbers with dinosaurs.  They are building hand strength to improve fine motor skills by squeezing a tennis ball mouth to open. After rolling a dice, students subitize and feed their mouth the identified number of loose parts. Sorting a set of objects based on a single attribute and then explaining their sorting rule was a fun challenge with coloured manipulatives. At our writing table, students enjoyed drawing and telling about their ideas about a topic of choice. Students continue to work on adding detail to their pictures.

Today students enjoyed using direct comparison to compare two objects based on the attribute of length. We glued in our traced foot into our visual journal and matched the length with snapcubes. Students took their snapcube tower around the classroom to find objects longer and shorter than their shoe. They used drawings to represent their findings and shared sentences with Mrs. Johnston.

Today a FOOD IMPACT handout came home. Students have the opportunity to participate in a fun snack day to teach us about healthy eating. We are asking students to please return their form and payment this week. How exciting.

Book orders due this week.
