Incredible Investigation of Ii

Welcome back and Happy Monday, Kindergarten. Everyone returned very excited to learn today.

Our Rockstar, Phoenix.

Phoenix loves to go bike riding with his family. He shared photos of himself and his family on different biking adventures. Very cool, Phoenix. It looks like you have lots of fun with your family. Phoenix has a very special pet cat at home. He likes to pet it and give it snuggles. Way to go, Rockstar Phoenix.
Students enjoyed a community circle where we shared about our weekends or what we might be looking forward to. Students are working to demonstrate listening to experiences and feelings of others. We used whiteboards to write the numerals 1-10. We practiced our subitzing skills by glancing at a ten frame and writing the number we saw. Awesome job, kinders. Playing dice games and board games at home is a great way to practice our subitizing skills. Recognizing numbers at a glance is a great life skill.

Students began their new learning tables today. Practicing fine motor skills (functional grip, colouring inside the lines) is an important kindergarten skill. Students practiced using real colours, colouring inside the lines and having no white showing as they coloured a fall picture. Students worked to identify a numeral and count out the corresponding number of counters. They were invited to share their counting with Mrs. Johnston today. Students were asked to say the number sequence 1-10 starting with various numbers and counting up to 10 and down to 0. Recognizing numbers from 1-10 was lots of fun using popsicle sticks and clothespins. Students were challenged to identify the missing number and find the number to clip into the number sequence. Students were asked to say the number sequence up to 10 and down to 0. Finally, students were exploring familiar materials in new ways. Students used yarn, rocks, beads, glass beads, shapes and blocks to create themselves out of loose parts. Students shared with their friends what their unique physical characteristics are. How creative, kinders.

Students learned a new poem and sang in aloud with their friends. Ask your child to share with you their four seasons and the actions they learned to remember. Ask you child to sing you our Fall Poem and show the actions.

The letter Ii is intensely fun and interesting. We learned our jolly phonics song about Inky the Mouse. Students learned the sound an Ii makes in ice cream and insect. We practiced letter formation and  used basic shapes to draw an inchworm, ice cream and insect. Students were encouraged to write the word, some letters or a starting letter for each picture. Reviewing the letters Ll, Tt and Ii at home will help students to remember the letters we have done as we continue to build our letter/sound knowledge.

Griffin, Phoenix, Carlos and Ivy share their incredible Ii work.
It Is Incredible Ii work, kinders.
