SPLAT

Students have been working on representing and describing numbers 2 to 10 pictorally and concretely. Today AM (and some PM)  finished up their very own SPLAT creation in their visual journals. Identifying a number, representing it with dots and saying the number is step 1. Then breaking the number down by 'splattin' some ink on their dots-how many are under the splat and how many are still outside of the splat? Identifying number pairs and writing the numeral to show understanding was their goal. We continue to do daily smart board splat activities. Playing with Lego, small toys or rocks with your child and counting how many you have and writing the number down is a great start. Hiding a few of them under a hand or napkin and telling how many are hiding is a great way to start number pairs. How many are under the napkin? How do you know?

Students have been hard at work on our top secret crafts and creations. Their lips are sealed.

TOP BANANA

Today Andy (PM) shared his awesome Goblin/ Crocodile creation. Andy wanted a villan to play with, so he created a Goblin and made a crocodile with a hook. He is so good at building Lego he didn't need any instructions, he builds all the time so he has had lots of practice. Andy completed an incredible drawing of his creation to share with the class. Everyone was very impressed with his detail and good colouring. Students asked questions about how he made the teeth and how he thought of adding a hook. Very cool. Way to go, Builder Andy.
