Talk about a cold Tuesday.

Thank you to families for bundling your child on these super cold days. We are preparing students as quickly as possible to meet you after class. Brrr.....

Students worked on their, My Puppy, poem today and have the words and actions almost mastered. Ask them to share it with you at home.

AM students continued to work on Wildlife vs. Pets and completed a writing task using the sentence starters: I see and I like. Students are working to identify initial sounds independently. Our learning tub is supporting growth through identifying beginning and end sounds. In small groups they are working to put ideas into sentences using sentence starters.

PM students completed the sorting activity of wildlife and pets following a class activity of identifying and sorting pets and wildlife. They cut and paste animals into the correct category. They will complete the written portion tomorrow using sentence starters of, I see and I like.

Students enjoyed hearing another story about picking a perfect pet. We shared ideas about what would be a great pet for the classroom and what might not be such a great choice:

AM:

  • Cash: A deer wouldn't be a good choice, it's too big.
  • Anya: A cat would run all round so isn't a good choice.
  • Brix: A lion might eat us.
  • Rebecca: A turtle would be fine for our pet.
PM
  • Thomas: A narwhal wouldn't be a good pet because of the long horn.
  • Nathan: A fish would be a good pet in our class.
  • Evan: a lizard in a cage would be fine, if it didn't get out.
  • Minael: A bear would be too big...and kind of scary.

Valentine's Day:

Kindergarten students will have the option of delivering valentine cards to their classmates on Tuesday, February 12th .

Prior to this date, all students will participate in making a personalized mail bag to collect Valentines cards.

Please note, making or purchasing valentine cards is an optional activity.  If you choose to send your child to school with Valentine cards, please ensure they have a card for each student in the class. As per New Brighton guidelines, no candy or food items of any kind are to be distributed at school.

                     Mrs. Johnston AM: 19 students
                     Mrs. Johnston PM: 21 students

To make for easy delivery of cards, please ensure that cards are addressed, To My Friend, rather than using names.
