Summer Tree Visit

Today students ventured to the classroom tree to see what summer brings to plants and trees. We noted the changes of the tree since our last visit.  As we walked to our tree, we identified 2D and 3D shapes in the community. We identified the shapes of leaves on different trees.

     Some observations we had were:
  • there's lots of leaves (Evan)
  • the grass around the tree was not squishy (Emma)
  • it grew bigger (Dashyl)
  • the leaves were green (Andy)
  • the trunk grew (Abigale)
  • the leaves changed, last time they were buds (Thomas)
  • more branches are growing (Sophie)
  • it was fatter (Blaire)
  • the tippy top had no leaves (Hadi)
After visiting our tree we did a guided drawing with sharpie (right?! Pretty adventurous). It went really well and students used pencil crayon to add addional detail.

AM Kindergarten did not have gym today and had time to use tissue paper to add the leaves to the tree. After suggestions and demonstrations of various ways to represent leaves, students went for it. Can you believe these amazing creations?

Heads up everyone. On Thursday June 20, students will do an outdoor walk to the pond. If weather permits we will do a picnic snack at the park. (Rain, rain, stay away).

Friday June 21 is PM kindergarten. By popular request we have declared a beach day. Students are invited to wear shorts, hats and sunglasses.

Looking ahead;
  • Monday: sports day (AM/PM kindergarten will have the opportunity to participated (please have your child sunscreened before they come and send along that water bottle)
  • Tuesday is PM kindergarten last day of classes
  • Wednesday is AM kindergarten last day-11:45am dismissal
