Terry Fox Run

AM Kindergarten students ran (and walked) the Terry Fox run today. Before running we talked about Terry and how brave he was. We watched a video where he spoke about trying his best and we watched him run. Students shared their ideas about being brave. We raised over $35 in our class! Way to go!

Monday October 1st is Orange Shirt day to recognize that Every Child Matters. Today we read the story, 'When We Were Alone'. Students imagined what it might be like if when they arrived at kindergarten they couldn't wear their own clothes, they had to wear something the same as everyone else:
  • I would feel sad (Owen)
  • I wouldn't like it (Olivia)
  • It would not be fun (Rebecca)
We all agreed it would not feel very good to be told what to wear. We talked about how it would feel to all have the same haircuts, students were not keen on the idea at all. Landon commented that, 'being different is okay and it's even better than being all the same'. All of us are going to celebrate how important it is to be special and to respect our differences by wearing our orange on Monday.

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing weekend. Stay warm and enjoy your family time together.
